STEM Lego Challenge
08/03/2018

The science department have been working hard over the last few months to prepare the STEM Club for the regional Lego Challenge Competition. This year it was held by BAE Systems at Samlesbury, where 10 teams entered the competition to represent the north west at the national finals next week.

Our team comprised of a mixture of years 7,8 & 9 pupils. There were 4 different areas to the competition, the speed challenge, the robotic challenge, a presentation on the design and build of the robot and finally a humanitarian engineering presentation. The team worked incredibly hard in the run up to and during the competition. They had to prepare for each category and in today’s competition there was an extra challenge which they could not prepare for.

To get the robot to perform as well as it did was a credit to all the pupils involved, the design and programming was amazing. The team overcame some initial set up problems, and after all 5 challenges were completed the judges made their final decisions. After a fantastic presentation we were awarded the prize for the best presentation on humanitarian engineering – a real credit to the school.

We are going to use this as a foundation for next year’s competition.
