Rotary Speaks Competition
23/01/2019

Dale Culver, Klaudia Witkowska and Oliver Grindrod represented Academy@Worden in this year's prestigious Rotary Youth Speaks competition.

Held at Walton le Dale High School, this event required each team to produce a 12 minute speech on a topic of their choice. This year, the team at Worden produced a fascinating speech on the negative influence of social media on the youth of today. The team was chaired by Dale, who introduced the speech fantastically. His confidence and presence from the outset really shone through.

Klaudia, our Main Speaker, then delivered the speech. She spoke eloquently, accurately and powerfully, after conducting the research and crafting her speech, beforehand. Even when posed with a difficult question by a member of the audience, Klaudia responded well.

The speech was concluded by our Vote of Thanks, Oliver Grindrod. Oliver, always full of confidence, shone on the stage and succinctly summarised the main points for the audience to take away from the team's speech. He even managed to extract a rapturous laugh from the audience for his well-delivered humour; his personality shining through brilliantly.

Despite not taking home the prize, the team performed spectacularly and the English Department at Worden would like to congratulate the three students for their time, preparation and efforts in this. Again, a very well done to Dale, Klaudia and Oliver.
