School closure update
26/03/2020

Firstly, I would like to thank each and everyone one of you who are following the latest government guidelines in the nationwide fight against Coronavirus Covid-19. It is only by staying at home and shielding those who are vulnerable that we are going to save lives. I also wanted to thank those parents who are using the work provided by school, for home learning, to keep those in their care busy and occupied during these testing times. It is extremely important that they too are following the strict guidelines and only leaving the house when absolutely vital.

We are extremely proud of those youngsters who are working hard at home, either online or on paper, and please encourage them to continue this moving forward. More work will be being made available through Synergy Homework and the Home Learning tab on the school website and I encourage you check these on a regular basis. As a school, we understand the pressures that pupils and parents/carers face at this moment in time and I would like to say that there is no expectation that pupils will hand in work to be marked. Staff are feeding back, where possible, as and when work is submitted. However, this is proving difficult in some circumstances given the current situation and we are looking into more suitable ways to submit work online.

As a school, we would love to acknowledge students who have examples of any outstanding work they have completed whilst at home. We would also like to hear about how they have helped out around the house by looking after siblings or simply doing chores to assist you. In addition, if you have any innovative examples of how you have motivated youngsters to work at home, please send us a photo of your child in action and we will post it on social media. You don’t need to photograph your child’s face if you think they will be too embarrassed! Be sure to send us a few words to explain what work or chore they are doing, and we will share the positive messages. Please send these via email to wordenwonders@wordenacademy.co.uk.

Finally, can I please encourage parents to use Synergy as their main way of communicating with school. The phones in school are not being routinely manned due to staffing issues and, therefore, some voicemail messages are not being picked up as regularly as normal.

Thank you again for your patience and understanding during these unprecedented times and please continue to do everything you can to keep yourself and your loved one as safe as possible.

Yours sincerely

Mr C Catherall
